What Our Staff and Residents Think About Us

We are committed to listening to our people and insight is at the heart of everything we do. Obtaining regular feedback and data from our residents and our staff on what is important helps us to understand what our residents think about our services or how we can build better work cultures for our staff is important. This supports continuous improvements.

Resident Insight Survey (Autumn 2023)

Some of the top line results:

  • 62 per cent of our residents are satisfied with the Council (compared to the London average of 50 per cent)
  • 84 per cent are satisfied with their local area (the London average being 65 per cent)
  • 72 per cent of residents trust the Council (surpassing the national benchmark of 56 per cent)
  • 26 per cent of residents agree the Council provide value for money - this is the lowest score since the Resident Insight Survey started in 2011; however is driven by a rise in the proportion of residents answering neutrally (16 points above the national average of 42 per cent)
  • 62 per cent think the Council does well at keeping residents informed (National benchmark is 55 per cent)
  • 68 per cent of residents believe people in the borough have an equal chance of succeeding regardless of background
  • 83 per cent residents would recommend Waltham Forest is a good place to live and 83 per cent feel strongly they belong to Waltham Forest.

The rising cost of living and crime and violence continue to be in our residents’ top three concerns. This survey has seen litter/dirt in the streets move into the top three concerns.

The resident insight survey is carried out twice a year in the Autumn and Spring and uses the Stratified Random Locational sampling approach, and fieldwork is completed over a month. During this survey, 777 households were interviewed face to face.
